NASA acquired this aircraft after secretly having surplus “Shiranui Type 2 Phase 3” units produced as part of the

“Prominence Project.”

On paper, its records have been altered to list it as a YF-23, and the official circumstances surrounding its acquisition remain classified.

This aircraft has undergone extensive modifications to enable operation in both space and on the ground, and is frequently used as a test platform for space-based experimental equipment. Furthermore, modifications aimed at enhancing its electronic warfare and close-quarters combat capabilities have been implemented, and it has been redesigned as a highly maneuverable tactical aircraft capable of multi-domain combat.
